Unleashing Intelligence: A Visionary Approach by the Mensa Foundation

MENSA

Established in 1971, the Mensa Foundation’s mission is to unleash intelligence. Beyond solely supporting the intellectually gifted, our aim is to foster a more nuanced understanding of intelligence within society. One that incorporates a person’s passion, goals, aspirations, as well as their talents and abilities at the different ages and stages of life. By doing so, the Foundation empowers all individuals to thrive and develop a deeper understanding of themselves, fostering personal growth and fulfillment without imposing predefined notions of success or eminence.

To do this the Foundation is focusing on three main areas of impact.

Areas of Impact

Research & Advocacy

The Mensa Foundation supports research into intelligence while advocating for a broader perspective beyond traditional definitions, incorporating diverse contexts across all ages and stages of life. Our aim is to influence a paradigm shift in the perception, study, and support of intelligence.

Importance

Mensans understand the importance of learners being actively challenged, nurtured, and supported in order to reach their full potential.

Integrity

That’s why Mensans recognise the value of teachers; we know how integral teachers and other educators are to the social-emotional and intellectual development of learners.

Mission

Indeed, the value of educators in society cannot be overestimated. Empowering educators, therefore, is one of the Foundation’s central missions.

The Mensa Foundation Scholarship Program

The Foundation’s flagship Scholarship Program relies on around 450 volunteers nationwide and office staff support. In the last year, nearly 200 scholarships have been awarded to college-bound students both nationally and internationally, at a total cost of around $200,000. Five international scholarships, totalling $6,000, have been awarded to students from South Africa, Sweden, and the UK.

Scholarships are granted based on 550-word essays detailing applicants’ academic and professional aspirations, along with how their  personal experiences will contribute to achieving these goals.

U.S. applicants do not need to be Mensa members, but college-bound Mensa members and their dependents may qualify for $2,500 scholarships through the Mensa Member Scholarship Program.
