American Mensa Appoints New Executive Director

Association Leader Named Mensa Executive Director

ARLINGTON, TEXAS (Jan. 17, 2018) — Trevor Mitchell has been appointed Executive Director of American Mensa, the largest of the worldwide Mensa affiliates with more than 50,000 members, 130 chapters, and special interest groups throughout the United States.

An accomplished association executive, Mitchell joined the Mensa staff in 2015 as Senior Director of Membership and Strategy. Prior to that, Mitchell spent eight years at ARMA International, an association for records and information management. He becomes just the fifth executive director in the organization’s 71-year history.

“The American Mensa Committee (board of directors) is thrilled with this appointment,” said LaRae Bakerink, Chair of American Mensa. “The leadership Trevor has demonstrated is just what Mensa needs right now as we navigate new and exciting initiatives to develop and grow a stimulating intellectual and social environment for our members.”

Long active in association management, contributing numerous presentations and articles to publications, Mitchell is currently involved with the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). He also is a member of the Texas Society of Association Executives (TSAE) and the Dallas Fort Worth Society of Association Executives (DFWAE), where he sits on the board of directors.

“I’m excited for the opportunity and challenge of leading this great organization,” said Mitchell, who will oversee day-to-day operation of American Mensa’s National Office and work with organizational leadership to develop strategies and implement policies and programs for Mensa and the Mensa Foundation. “Our mission to identify and foster intelligence for the benefit of society is more important today than ever.”

Mitchell, who earned the Certified Association Executive designation in 2012, holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from Columbia College in Missouri and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Missouri.
